How to Measure Your Table for the Perfect Tablecloth
Choosing the right tablecloth starts with measuring your table correctly. Whether your table is round, rectangular, square, or oval, a few simple measurements will help you find the perfect fit.
- Round Tables: Measure the diameter of the tabletop.
- Rectangular & Oval Tables: Measure the length and width.
- Square Tables: Measure both sides of the tabletop.
For extendable tables, be sure to measure with any leaves or extensions in place if you plan to use them when entertaining.
Understanding Tablecloth Drop
The drop is the amount of fabric that hangs over the edge of the table.
- 6" Drop – Casual everyday use
- 8"–10" Drop – Standard dining table appearance
- 12" Drop – Elegant and decorative look
- Floor-Length Drop – Ideal for weddings and formal events
To calculate the tablecloth size you need, add the desired drop twice to both the table width and length.

- Desired Drop: 8"
- Calculations: 2 X drop: 2 X 8" = 16"

For a 10" Drop
Tablecloth Width = 42" + (10" × 2) = 62"
